Did you know that what’s on your plate can change how you feel?
In this self-paced, 16-week course, students will dive into the fascinating world of Nutritional Psychiatry. This isn't just about "eating your veggies"—it's a deep dive into the science of how food powers the brain, regulates mood, and builds emotional resilience for the modern teen.
What will be taught?
Students will learn how to use nutrition as a tool for mental well-being. We move beyond basic calories and focus on "brain fuel," helping learners understand why they feel certain ways after eating and how to make choices that support a calm, focused, and happy mind.
What topics will we cover?
- The Gut-Brain Axis: Understanding the "second brain" and how digestive health influences mental clarity and anxiety.
- Mood-Boosting Nutrients: A deep dive into Omega-3s, B-vitamins, and Vitamin D and their roles in neurotransmitter production.
- Emotional vs. Mindful Eating: Tools to recognize stress triggers and develop a healthier relationship with food.
- The Sugar-Mood Rollercoaster: Analyzing how glucose and insulin impact energy levels and irritability.
- Body Image & Media Literacy: Examining advertising’s influence and promoting body positivity.
How is the class structured?
The course is broken down into 16 engaging lessons grouped into 4 themed units. Each lesson features a deep-dive video session and practical application materials.
How will I teach?
My teaching style is evidence-based yet casual and relatable. I don't just lecture; I coach students to become "nutrition detectives" in their own lives.
Interaction & Formats
- Dynamic Video Lessons: Each week features a core lesson video (15–30 minutes) breaking down complex science into "teen-friendly" concepts.
- End-of-Lesson Quizzes & Worksheets: Every lesson concludes with an interactive quiz or worksheet to ensure the "knowledge sticks."
- Curated Extra Learning: Optional YouTube videos are included for students who want to take a deeper dive.
- Hands-On Activities: From "Kitchen Pantry Audits" to creating stress-reducing meal plans.
By the end of these 16 weeks, your learner won't just know what to eat—they’ll understand why it matters for their mind, giving them a foundation for health that lasts a lifetime.

Erin Crowell
Hi, I’m Erin Crowell!
I’m the Founder and CEO of Happy Kids Nutrition Academy, but first and foremost, I’m a parent who knows the "veggie struggle" is real. With a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Human Nutrition from Mount Saint Vincent University and over a decade of experience in the nutrition and fitness industry, I’ve dedicated my career to making health education fun and accessible for the next generation.
My mission is to empower kids aged 8-18 to build a positive relationship with food through science-backed, interactive learning. From kinesiology to food science, I believe that when kids understand the why behind their food choices, they develop habits that last a lifetime. I’ve been honored to be featured in Inc. Magazine, Global News, and Start UP Canada, and I’ve had the joy of teaching over 1,000 students across 20 countries. I can’t wait to help your child thrive!
This class was so wonderful and my daughter learned so much about nutrition and how to make better choices with food. The instructor was really kind and allowed time for note taking and ensured my daughter had a throughout understanding of the concepts.
